Removing a child from the family home is meant to be the "least
intrusive option".
in·tru·sive [in-troo-siv]
–adjective
1. tending or apt to intrude; coming without invitation or welcome:
intrusive memories of a lost love.
2. characterized by or involving intrusion.
3. intruding; thrusting in.
Power 4 Parents.org believes that there is nothing more intrusive
than removing a child from their home.
The Department of Child Safety, under the guise of Child Protection, too
often opt to remove the child and place him or her in alternative care
(foster or kinship care) instead of investigating ways to actually
assist the parents while the child remains in the family home. We have
all heard the term 'shoot first and ask questions later' and it is all
too common throughout the DoCS offices in Australia.
This is assuming that the allegations made against parents are true and
factual. In an alarming number of cases, allegations against parents
are not accurately investigated by Intake Officers and not only are
families torn apart, but Australian parents are becoming abused victims
themselves... Abused by the system.
This web site is for parents who are currently riding the Department
carousel and parents who have never been involved with The Department
before. Contrary to popular belief, just because a DoCS worker has never
knocked on your door does not mean that they haven't received a notification
about you. Many notifications are not investigated, are classed as "intake
managed", remain in Departmental History and are referred back to for up to
25 years.
